P.Mudivathilla( 1982 ) and kalakar( 1983 )..
but in reverse he lifted kannavu kannum vazalike ellam ( kadal mengala ) song form the same music director.

rather i would say some sort of handshaking or nice to have song in his bucket.. or inspired..
we can frame it any way.. :)

OMG..I have psychic powers...I can guess the song even without hearing the track!
The original is by Ilayaraja(1982).Kalyanji-Anandji flicked it for the movie Kalaakaar(86/87?).The song goes 'Neele Neele amber par...'
I guess I dont have to state the song.

MD: MaestrO

Hey, I have heard the hindi version of this during hostel days. Can someone tell me the (hindi) song and the movie of it please? Just as it is pleasing to listen to this one in tamil, so it was in Hindi.

I think IR and a hindi music director exchanged one song each and this is IR composition that he exchanged with him

Ilaya nila from Payanangal mudivathillai. This song features one of the best guitar interludes in TFM. Sheer genius of IR.

The same movie was remade as "Kalakaar" in Hindi . Kalyanji-Anandji were the MD in hindi. Here is a version of the story that I heard about the copying. Actually neither of them copied the song. The tamil version came first anyway. IR and K-A had a healthy respect for each other and in one of the functions that they met , KA expressed an admiration for this song. IR let them use it in hindi while KA gave the song " Kasme waade pyaar" to IR ( which became Kanavu kaanum vaazhkai) .

So they just swapped the songs!

The song neele neele ambar as well as the film kalakar was the remake of tamil film. The interesting point to note is that the music directors Kalyanji-Anandji have composed neele neele ambar.... with the similar flavor as in Ilaya nila.....
The hindi song was a remake of the tamil version and more adapted to suit hindi lyrics and tune and bollywood tastes. Its a song remake not a life - everyone including Ilayaraja, KalyanjiAnandji, and the whole industry knows that this song is a remake and customized to suit bollywood and became a hit.
There is no need to call it a copy or lift - because the film itself is a remake and prior permissions and authorizations were also obtained for remaking the song too.
